Author Gordon Bond discusses his book To Cast a Freedman’s Vote, the story of the first African American voter after the Civil War under the Fifteenth Amendment. Thomas Mundy Peterson was awarded a medal for casting his vote in Perth Amboy, NJ, an event which Bond uses to explore race in in the late 1800s.
