2020 Coquito Masters Competition @ Newark Public Library, Centennial Hall

Do you enjoy coquito, the traditional coconut-based holiday drink served in Puerto Rico?  Does everyone love your recipe for coquito?  Are you curious about coquito?  This event is for you!

Contestants enter their version of coquito in a blind-tasting competition, program attendees taste entries and cast their votes to select the best coquito in the Garden State! The entry with the highest number of votes wins! Must be over 21 (I.D. required) to taste entries. Presented in partnership with the International Coquito Federation.

This event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available at the Bears & Eagles Stadium Parking Garage located on Bridge Street.

Contestant Registration:

All contestants must pre-register to compete. Contact Debbie Quiñones at 917-287-4964, coquitomasters@gmail.com or visit www.facebook.com/coquito.master/ to register. Contestants pay an entry fee to place their coquito in competition and must provide a gallon for tasting and rating.

NEW YEAR, FRESH START FOR WORK - POSTPONED DUE TO SNOW @ Main Branch

January 18: OVERCOMING BARRIERS TO EMPLOYABILITY – POSTPONED DUE TO SNOW
This session is all about coping with stress around the job search. Using community resources and proven strategies so that you can most easily develop a personalized employment action plan will be discussed.

January 25: SOCIAL MEDIA AND EMPLOYMENT
Technology has dramatically changed how people network, learn about, and apply for jobs. At this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to use social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked-in, YouTube, and other essential on-line tools.

February 1: WORK INCENTIVES
Social Security Administration (SSA) work incentives will be demonstrated with explanations about how people can hold a job and keep other benefits and/or medical coverage. Also provided will be personal budgeting guidance.

February 8: SUCCESSFUL INTERVIEWS
Review the dos and don’ts of interviewing and resume writing. Role-play employment interviews and gain invaluable constructive feedback so that you can highlight your strengths and make the best impression on employers.

February 15: A WELLNESS RECOVERY ACTION PLAN FOR WORK
Learn to structure a balance between your work and your personal life. This plan will prevent potential problems before they become overwhelming. Whether you are looking for a job or already employed, you will appreciate the tension tamers presented in this session.

The Life & Times of Martin Luther King Jr.

The Avery Sharpe Sextet will examine the life of Martin Luther King and the
historical changes he helped make in America. Bassist, Avery Sharpe will narrate the
program which will feature music from the era. The performance will also include
videos, spoken words, vocals and images.

If you are 16 or older, like working with a group, and think you may need help reviewing your Math, Science, or English skills for your TASC or GED test, join us for our High School Equivalency Test Prep Classes (TASC/GED)!

Classes are free and led by a certified NJ Educator. Let’s make your dreams come true!

Classes will meet on Mondays and Fridays from 2-4 PM, starting on September 9th and ending on November 25th, 2019.
