Margaret Klem of West Orange was convicted of murdering her husband, and sent to the gallows in 1881. She was the last woman executed in New Jersey.
Was Margaret the calculating murderess and adulteress portrayed by the press? Was she a battered wife pushed to the edge? Or was she, as she claimed to the end, innocent? These questions will be addressed by Peter J. Wosh, co-author of Murder on the Mountain: Crime, Passion, and Punishment in Gilded Age New Jersey.
Books will be available for sale the night of the event.
