Meet the new Library Director, Joslyn Bowling Dixon

As the new Director of Newark Public Library, I am delighted to welcome you to our website!

You will find an abundance of online books, resources, programs and services – offered in English, Spanish and Portuguese – to better serve our community.  There’s something for everyone in our many virtual programs – from American Sign Language lessons to Newark Zinefest.  Check out storytimes for kids, online book clubs, captivating historical facts about Newark, discussions on current events and their effect on our community and much more. You can even learn how to start your own personal genealogy research!

We are committed to transforming lives and strengthening communities through innovative services, stimulating programs, and inspiring collections.  To deliver on our mission, Newark Public Library is deeply invested in driving programs that advance inclusion and diversity and support critical educational and learning needs – especially for young children.  Even prior to the drastic changes that the pandemic forced on us all, the role of the Library has been continuously evolving.  We’ve worked collaboratively with government and stakeholder partners to increase funding and expand services for all sectors of the community, including mental health and social services that are so urgently needed by many Newarkers.

As you explore the many programs and resources Newark Public Library offers, I am sure that you will be impressed with the amazing online presence that our staff has created to keep our community connected, enlightened, entertained and informed during this stressful time.  I will work to continue and expand this new and robust digital platform, creating an inclusive environment that shares knowledge, fosters dialogue, and offers enrichment, support, and safety to all.

Thank you for your continued support.  I, and the entire Newark Public Library team look forward to welcoming you back to our locations as soon as it is safe to do so.  In the meantime, be sure to check out our website and social media pages for accurate, up-to-the-minute updates.

I look forward to meeting you – our patrons, neighbors, supporters, corporate and community partners – and working together to make Newark Public Library a vital and vibrant part of Newark.

Sincerely,

Joslyn Bowling Dixon
