Sankofa Bookmark Drop-in
African Americans in 1960s Newark were creative in using symbols to proudly show their history.
Imagining and affirming their histories in the South, Africa and West Indies led many to learn about the symbols that African American used to tell stories about themselves.  Join us for a Sankofa Bookmark drop-in.
Sankofa  is a word in the Twi language of Ghana that means to “Go back and get it.”  It represents the joy of learning about history and to bring it into the future!  There will be markers, string and images for you to decorate your own bookmark.  Join us!
