Bomba and Plena – The Drum Music of Puerto Rico

Come discover the two signature genres of Puerto Rican music: the bomba which originated among enslaved Africans, and the plena, a music that developed in coastal urban centers.  This program will feature the celebrated percussion and dance ensemble Segunda Quimbamba demonstrating the origins and structure of both percussion-driven musical traditions, bringing history to life with its performance.
