Inventory of New Jersey Newspapers on Microfilm
The biggest Newark papers are the Newark Daily Advertiser (19th century) the Newark News (also known as the Newark Evening News or Newark Sunday News, 1883-1972) and the Star Ledger (became the largest paper after the News). The papers below are not indexed or full-text searchable unless otherwise specified (e.g. Newark Evening News has a full run index for most articles 1914-1972 [obits not death notices], Star Ledger after 1971 has a partial index). Only one Newark paper has been digitized by the library so far, The Newark Herald / New Jersey Herald News, which can be found here.
For reference questions, research services, and to order copies, call the New Jersey Information Center at (973) 733-7775 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
